benfinlayson said:Thanks infrasilver - I will keep you all posted. I did see a used crank on eBay the other day for £1200 so they do come up every now and again I guess and if I were to take on the car (due to my friend not being in a position to fund a rebuild) I can wait and collect required parts as they come up.
benfinlayson said:Question - how did you know your used crank was a good one? Did you have to have it measured etc? Also - did you have to tear the engine down completely to discover the fact it had snapped?
Dammit said:Hah, I just opened this thread to post this^, from memory the short block is only slightly more than the crank.
Harv said:I spoke with Porche today as I'm very friendly with their parts department. They can supply a replacement short engine with 5% discount for a 3.6 for £5490 inc vat ( there's a surcharge on the old unit which is then sent back to Germany for inspection).
I thought a 'short" engine was bottom end, cylinders and pistons, but not heads and valve gear. Do Porsche really have a different definition?Harv said:Definition of a short engine is anything ancillary (ie pas pump, fuel rail, manifolds etc) removed.
