I turned on my headlights today for the first time and i have a small light hanging down that lights up (see pic). I'm guessing this should be lighting up something behind the dash. Any suggestions on how i get it back in place?. Will i need to take dash off or is there any reason to leave it hanging down?

If suggest waiting until it's dark and seeing what doesn't light up on your dash to assist you in the narrowing down of its original location.

It looks like the ashtray light .. theres a rubber grommet on top of the ashtray it fits into .. to gain access then head under dash from the drivers side .. you should just about be able to see it or refit it by touch .

Thanks, looking at it last night i think you are right. I pulled the ashtray out itself and cant see anywhere for a bulb, is the rubber grommet in the middle of the housing for the ashtray? I think i see somewhere it could go, though access is very tight.

Is this the rubber grommet in the middle of the pic? I have removed the ashtray and the housing. There is only tiny gap above so am trying to remove grommet first to get more room but without success so far. Any suggestions appreciated!

yep thats the grommet .. its a 90 degree angle above what you can see so off hand i dont think it will pull out .

You either need to work by touch and it will probably be finger tips or may be remove the radio or heater panel and gain access that way .

I think i work from under the dash from the drivers side to get at that area but the cars i work on are normally in bits so access is not a problem .

EDIT

Actually now i have thought about it you need to remove the heater panel .. its x2 radio keys or a wire coat hanger cut and bent into a u shape to remove it .

Thanks ordered a set of radio keys for few pounds and a new rubber grommet as i pulled a bit off the old one trying to pull it through that hole. Part number for it is 96463211301 incase anyone has similar issue, tool me ages to find the right drawing to get the part number. Hopefully ill fix it all next weekend.

Thanks that worked, easy to get to with heater pulled out. Here is what shape of rubber piece so no wonder i couldnt pull it through. Also upgraded light to led while i was at it as bit worried bulb would get too hot.
