Anyone have any experience of working with them on suspension set up and/or engine work on 993s? I know they have a good rep on the water cooled cars and seemingly on 964s.

I like the look of the cars they are turning out and they seem like good guys when you speak to them. Appreciate the detail choice is Centre Gravity but interestes in looking at a few options, not least one shop that could look at chassis and engine work.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Nick

They rebuilt an engine for me a few years back. I was warned by another member at the time who had encountered problems. Unfortunately I paid the price by having it rebuilt again less than 6 months later. Was an expensive lesson. I certainly lt won't be going back when they are plenty of better places around.

Would only use centre of gravity for suspension. What kind of engine work do you require so soon after purchasing? Not covered by JZM warranty?

Nothing needing to be done straight away but I'm keen to get the leak down test done and I know I will want to get more power out of the engine at some point. I've never left an engine alone on any car so I doubt I will start now! I don't know what shape or form this will take yet, just at the start of that journey!

Thanks for the info on RPM. They score points by actually getting back to you and seeming interested in doing work but as I was explaining to someone yesterday, always go with the best supplier not the keenest!!

My shortlist on engine work is RedTek, 9m, CTR Dev and was RPM but maybe not anymore.

Suspension - Centre Gravity are by far the most thorough I have dealt with and free from any sales patter. They'll tailor the car to your requirements and ensure all parts are tip top, checked & double checked before handover.

When you say "engine work", what are you after? The NA 993 Motor is a strong unit providing it's serviced well. I would recommend a trip to Wayne for a re-map. He will also ensure that the Varioram is working correctly and that all is well with the motor before mapping.
If the car's not quick enough as is or after a re-map then you should have bought a Turbo IMO.

If you're going to visit 9m in Warrington then I'd highly recommend you visit John & Danny at Unit11, also in Warrington, they specialise in air cooled engines

These guys are what I`d call specialist engine builders and would be my choice rather than places that "can do" a rebuild but aren`t a patch on the quality above.

Thanks Carl. Will bow to popular opinion and go to CG.

I didn't want a turbo as I already have both tuned turbo charged and supercharged cars putting out big numbers. NA was the choice for me and I know that the 993 varioram can be developed further, albeit at a cost. I'm at a very early stage of weighing up options! Part for the fun of owning cars like this for me.

What I will do anyway is get the leak down test done, go to Wayne for remap and go to 100 cell cats and different back boxes, probably Cargraphic. I will also get a suspension refresh at CG.

A remap and some weight loss for the car will go a long way. Then the big bills start :thumb:

Whilst I appreciate C of G are the defacto team with the most Kudos for Geo work - don't discount others.
I had my Geo done at 9m whilst I was getting everything else done - and these guys really know how to set a car up :thumb:

RPM are currently building my 964 RS rep at the moment. Shell, suspension, box, brakes. No problems so far and they know what they are talking about and good comms and service.

All their work is warranted so i can't understand why an engine build went wrong after 6 months, what actually went wrong and why it was not rectified by them???
:?:

That said my 3.8 (from a 3.6) engine was built by Danny and Johnny @ Unit11 and the work and quality speaks for itself!

Shop around but go and speak with them. Just cos 1 person has had a bad issue doesn't mean you have to avoid them. I've heard bad stories about 9M and other outfits up north doesn't mean i would avoid them...

Do your research re aftermarket Cats. Look at the 100 & 200 cell HJS Cats that Carnewal offer.

Also use the search on here as Back Boxes have been discussed many, many times... Cargraphic IIRC are not a popular choice on the 993. I had my Ceramic Coated Fister Level III's shipped over from the States and wouldn't choose any other, they sound awesome. :thumb:

I've heard the RSR, Dansk and Cargraphic. Mildly prefer the sound of the Cargraphic and the quality is very good. No rush though, will try and listen to a few more in action over next few months.

I'd personally also add Neil Bainbridge to that list too.
