PORCHE TECH - North London

Thank you all for the suggestions. I've booked into PT for Thursday. Will let you know how I get on. From dealing with them on the phone, they seem to know their stuff.

Still don't understand why you need a porsche specialist for an MOT.

Use your local for an MOT. If something is wrong, then if it's something which needs a porsche person to look at then use them, but an MOT isn't going to find things which need a porsche specialist, it's more likely to find you need a tyre.........

Many .. many years ago i got my wife to take her car for an MOT at kwik fit .. they failed it on shocks and brakes and said it was dangerous to drive and that they couldn,t let her take it away ..

After the tearfull phone call i had a chat with the manager pointing out i was a mechanic that had looked at the car and there was nothing wrong with it .

Also pointed out they had no power to stop anyone takeing their car away and i asked for an appeal form ..

It passed 10 mins later .

If in doubt .... ALWAYS ask for an appeal form ....

But that was a long time ago.

Any garage can mot ANY car .. it doesnt have to be a Porsche garage and the rules should be the same where ever you take it .. thats the official answer anyways .

Years ago when I first started working inn the motor trade I started out in Kwik Fit, I can tell you the amount of dodgy things went on it was unbelieveble, being young etc, we were told when doing inspections on suspensions to spray WD40 on the shock absorbers and tell customer that its leaking. Then there are lease hired vehicles that come in for tyre change and when they get their tyre changed the receipt copy is filed away for guarantee, we the guys used to do is trace back 3 months of the guarantee which by then the paperwork has been signed of by Insurance etc then we got old tyres and swap them for new saying that there is a defect in the tyres so we got new tyres and old tyres were sent back.... , private work behind closed shutters after hours was like West Coast Customs Garage, 5-6 cars at a time carrying out repairs, engine swaps, welding, oil servicing , lowering suspensions, fitting sports exhaust....the list goes on..... , I wouldn't go no where near kiwk fit lol... but was fun days...

Of course you don't. However a Porsche specialist should be able to give sensible advice on any marginal issues. For example, my indy advised that one of the track rod ends will need replacing soon, not even advisory but there was some very slight sign of play. The experience of seeing lots of 911s.

Would you not rather use a Porsche Specialist, as opposed a general all-round car garage? Given the identical price and geographical location, their experience and knowledge gives you that added peace of mind should anything arise. Furthermore, it's always good to chat and network with fellow 911 enthusiasts.

I doubt there are any porsche specialists who are also MOT test centres. Suspect they will all drive it to the local MOT test centre, get it tested, and then bring it back, which you might as well do yourself.

By identical price do you mean £54.95?
Pretty sure they won't do it for the £25 that Kwik Fit charge.
