Need some advice thanks. Both my turbo chargers need to be replaced due to being sized where the actuator rod is. Can you recon them and where is the best place to put them or should I go for new standard or an upgrade and again where would be the best place to purchase them. Thanks in advance

Call Matt at Fearnsport or Ken at 911 Excellence.

If you do a search on this site there is a turbo reconditioning firm that has been mentioned a couple of times. You may need new turbo units or yours may be recondition-able. New Turbos won't be cheap. Or you can source used from a Indy that has swapped out stock Turbos for hybrids such as the work 9E does.

I have no idea of price for used Turbos versus getting yours reconditioned by an independent turbo reconditioning specialist. I'd be surprised if Porsche indys carry out this work rather than sub-contract to a general turbo specialist outfit.

But at least you have some choice as to a way forward.

I rebuilt umpteen turbo's in a past life (industrial diesel engines) and there really isn't much to them. Mind you, they weren't these fancy variable guide vane things we have on our cars these days.
However, I've no doubt it'll be an eye wateringly expensive job with a 'Porsche' label on it. Good luck and let us know how you get on :thumb:

It'll be even dearer using an Indy as an intermediary who uses a third party to rebuild/recondition/refurbish the turbos.

Search for the source of the Nile seems to hallucinate my mind......

AET turbos can do it. Called them last year regarding hybriding my turbos and they said they normally have enough scavenged parts to rebuild any part of the VTG turbos. £595 plus VAT I think he said

That's the name! Thanks. AET. Price seems good - per Turbo I presume.
I think new they are around £2k each - not sure if Porsche supplied or after-market. (Plus labour for removing and fitting).

When I needed new turbos, my Local OPC quoted c. £8k for factory reconditioned units - albeit with a two year guarantee on parts and fitting.

Mike at Sports and Classic sorted the car in the end, but not without having to take the engine out and renew a number of pipes and lines which were attached to the corroded turbos.

Hope yours isn't as bad as mine was....

I've used aet turbos to rebuild my turbo. Not for a Porsche but 270bhp mk1 golf.

Very friendly guys.

That price was each turbo, but would go up if parts were needed other than the usual. If they are seized then I think it would be more expensive that £595 each.

Not sure why the engine would need to be dropped to replace the turbo and pipework, but perhaps there were other things that needed an engine drop?

Either way. The OP may be looking at a big bill to sort out the turbo.
If they are badly corroded they may not even be re-serviceable.

The price for £2k each I had heard must have been after-market with OPC Turbo's at £4k each - about right probably.

Keep us posted on the resolution and final cost.
