Exhaust shims for the tailpipes, Anyone Interested UPDATE

Ok so the sample set has been produced and trial fitted to a 997.2 and yes the also fit the gen2 . when trial fitting them it was noted that they were a little too long and did not contract fully to fit so a small modification has been done to enlarge the gap slightly. It was also noted that they were quite awkward to fit as they had a tendency to try and twist while putting in and this is clearly why Porsche don't sell them as a separate item and the factory probably has special tooling to fit them.
The engineer making these is a perfectionist and has now fabricated a fitting tool to make our lives easy.

At this point I must add I am nothing to do with the company or won't be profiting from the sales, but they are a local company and the guys doing it are known to me which is why I have been happy to help.

IMO these are better than the original now as
1 they are made of stainless steel
2 they look the same as the original
3 they are available to buy which the OE ones are not
4 they are going to be sold in 3 formats to suit every person so no need to buy bits you dont want to.

They will be sold this way and these are the prices they are talking about.
1 a kit consisting of 2 inserts and a fitting tool £80
2 a pr of inserts £70
3 a single insert £40

I have some photos of the sample , they want to carry out a couple more trials and set up a how to buy option then are good to go. I will keep you posted. :thumb:

So, as part of the trial I have now fitted a pair of these to my 997.1 C2S that does not have PSE.
I think they are great, look and feel like OEM and they are staying on the car.
Below is detail of how they look and how I fitted them (description at the top of each picture). It is worth mentioning that this is the third time I have removed my exhaust tips and so it is pretty easy - the first time I did it (when they were about 9 years old) it was a pain as they didn't want to shift !

PS Had to add in three posts due to 10 attachment per post limit.
PPS Yes the car was dirty - it got cleaned later when the sun was not so strong !

That's a great review , The guys doing this would like me to pass on their thanks for helping as it was really important before making a full batch that they understood how the fitting would go for a typical guy doing it in his garage, and your point about the one with the wider slot being easier to fit was just the type of info they needed.
It's excellent that you consider them to be of OEM quality and standard as that was what they were wanting to achieve and improve on by using Stainless Steel over the Steel ones supplied with the tips.
Because they are perfectionists even thought they are not available to buy anywhere else without buying the tips as well they still wanted to manufacture the very best product they could.

These are UK made by a company in Dorset and not some dodgy quality stuff from Asia.

I will keep you posted as to when they will be available, but JMBs phone number and web site are on the card in the photos so please feel free to contact them.

I think the first batch will be for 997.1 and 997.2 cars fitted with non PSE exhausts and I will keep you posted on progress with inserts for PSE cars.
