Whilst out enjoying some open top motoring today I heard a graunching sound from the rear of the car. On pulling over and expecting something quite dramatic to be dragging on the ground I found that what I assume is a retaining strap for for the near side exhaust box was hanging, apparently still connected, down to the ground. I jury rigged holding it up and drove home.
I am no mechanic but can do simple things although I haven't yet done anything on the Targa. Question is, how critical is the retaining strap and how easy is a diy fix?
Any help, much appreciated.
Thanks
Edit: so now the engine has cooled down I have managed to wiggle the retaining strap off and it is indeed broken having rusted through at the top. My next question is how critical is this strap? Should I expect the exhaust to drop without it? Should I stop driving the car until it is fixed?
