How reliable is PCM2 in the 997.1?

What are feelings on PCM2 reliability? Read a lot of threads on here and elsewhere on fault messages and general issues as they age. If so, what are the alternatives?

My PCM2.1 unit is 10 years old, no issues.

Obviously now outdated but I live with it whilst it's working!

Good to hear Martian. I can live with outdated because it sort of matches me!!

Mine is nearly 13 years old and no issues to date.

Luck of the draw I suppose :dont know:

PCM 2.1 was fine when I had it, the problem is usually the amp which means you get no bass.

The satnav alone is awful, the way you get an ipod wworking with it and functionality thereafter is useless, so I upgraded, but toying with upgrading again to something with full android auto and DAB radio......

Before I fitted an alpine unit my pcm2.1 worked fine very very outdated but worked and with the ipod and bluetooth units added did the job for me ok . as Resigner it was my non Bose Amp that failed, loss of Bass. fitted a rainbow beats2 amp and was then pretty much better than Bose :thumb:

Cheers fellas - looks like best plan is to use as is and upgrade if I have failure downstream.

The CD drive can pack up and occasionaly they cause a battery drain but over all they last pretty well .. most are changed as they are old i would have thought .

Nav maps can be updated but its expensive via Porsche .

Cheers Demort - my car had a PCM fault but specialist identified an issue with the SIM card module and blue tooth fibre connector both of which have been replaced and new software loaded at Porsche under warranty. Guess as I said, I'll keep using until it fails then upgrade.
