Selling tips

Hi guys,
With a heavy heart, I have decided to sell my beloved 911 997.2.
Do any of you have tips on how to do this?
I have an independent warranty which runs out in mid-September, so ideally looking to sell by then.
Sorry if this has been discussed to death in the past, I did a forum search but couldn't find anything suitable.
Are there any OPCs or indy's you would recommend? Is it a case of me driving down to these places to get a price? Will they only act as an intermediary rather than buy the car off me? What is the most cost effective way to do this?

I bought my car from Brookspeed, who are amazing. But I believe they charge 10% of the car's price as their fee once they find a buyer. So looking at around £4000 in commission. Is that reasonable or does that seem high?

Thanks guys and sorry for being so daft!

10% is pretty typical of a 'Sale or Return' fee but would probably return you more than if you sold the car privately despite them doing all the advertising and vetting of test-pilots/tyre-kickers etc.

A straight sale to a Porsche specialist would probably nett you 5-10% less but this would vary according to (a) the specialist and (b) how much they wanted your car.

An OPC wouldn't buy it outright and as a part-ex would bid you low as they don't generally retail cars like yours and would just sell it on to an indy.

Looking at your specific situation I reckon Brookspeed would be your best bet as they obviously know you and the car.

Good Luck :thumb:

Ryad, I would suggest you put an add on here in the cars for sale section and also in the 997 section as there are always guys looking for gen2 cars but a good idea to list spec model etc as 40k could be a good price or it may be a bit high depending on car and spec etc.
Also give the likes on 911 virgin a call as they will give you a guide price over the phone and will actually buy the car from you.

Brookspeed are very good and my local indy of choice they do move gen1 and gen2 cars quite quickly.

If I hear of anyone looking I will point them your way but need to know more info about the car.

Good luck with the sale :thumb:

Thanks for the tips guys.
I will be in touch with 911 virgin and brookspeed. Just had another look at the brookspeed website, it's 10% plus vat so 12% !

With selling it privately, although I have warranty which can be transferred, it will only be for a month. I have always been under the impression you should buy performance cars from a reputable dealer and with a warranty?

Very sad this is happening!

I have always found 'commission sale' to be a good option with 'specialist cars'. Yes....you pay what seems like a significant fee, around 10%, but if that comes off the higher price the dealer will almost certainly be able to achieve, then it begins to make sense financially, to say nothing of removing the 'hassle factor'.

For example, when I sold an E46 M3 earlier this year, I believe the maximum I could have got privately would have been £15,000. As it was, the dealer got £19,000, took £2K commission and returned £17,000 to me. There is simply no way I would have expected to get that privately. The fact that it was also considerably more than I paid for the car in 2012, was a bonus.......

Likewise when I sold my 993 C2S a few years ago, I got back exactly what I paid for it, even after the dealer's commission. Of course, had I kept my low mileage 993, that would have been an entirely different story.........
