OPC service vs Indy??? There is a reason I ask....

Some of the advice so far is typical of how must of us feel (that a specialist is fine). However I do suspect there are people out there who are different and will only pay top dollar for cars with full OPC history (as Isysman says)

Take this car from another thread. It's got carbon bits and PCCBs but really all they are pushing here is the very full OPC service record. And that's meant somebody has paid £70k for what a £60k car, right?

Or maybe I'm missing something...

I am struggling to see how that is £70k - the mileage is not collectable so maybe the fact it has a strong spec including ceramics might be the answer.

Clearly I am a little bias on this but I will tell you a story - customer car one owner Turbo. He owned it from new. It was maintained by the OPC until he was no longer able to receive warranty - 10 years up. ( this was just before the increase ).

We took over the car. I had to call him with an estimate for £12k to make it good. Sent pics etc. So after 10 years and servicing every year with same OPC with all the stamps I suggested he might want to make a call to the OPC to complain about the fact that 6 months after the last time they had seen it, that it needed £12k of work ( at Indy rate ).

They basically said no goodwill gesture - car no longer in warranty, so nothing they could do. They couldn't defend the fact that 6 months prior the car had been in for it last service and these items were not mentioned.

So 10 year old porsche , full OPC history and a pile of work - as people say buy on condition not stamps ( assuming all porsche specialists / OPC ) .

if the car is collectable, rare and very low mileage, then full OPC history will add to the desirability.

But as many have said, there are a lot of buyers who will buy only on OPC history and not condition.

Exactly, I will not put up with the extortionate costs and poor service from the OPC's. If a prospective purchaser doesn't like that then tough, I'm not keeping the car for the next purchaser. In my experience it makes no difference.

It's worth noting that OPC's also set their own pricing so it's worth getting quotes from a few. My major service (+brake fluid change and new plugs) by Brooklands was nearly £300 less than a quote from OPC Guildford.

We are all right because we all have different experiences.

But for me I love the car and the relationship with my Indy makes it even better! That's it simple.
