GT3 values

Pip I think that you make a valid point given these are (relatively) small volume specialist cars and they get used on track means there is always going to be higher risk of crash repairs than other models.

If its repaired properly through an insurer to how Porsche intended then it probably has no impact on values (with the supporting paperwork). I think its when they are a category X write off put back on the road or a private repair without going through the insurer with no visibility on HPI that one has to take care and have any prospective purchase of a GT3 or any high-end car thoroughly checked out as it will be impacted on value and desirability come resale time.

Great thread and read.

Ive been hankering over a 991 GT3 for a while, I had my name down for the gen 2 car but at the time never realised or was told I'd have no chance (never owned a Porsche before).
I've been watching a few cars that are up for sale and prices do vary quite a bit. The voodoo blue car on auto trader looks a well spec car but more miles than I would have liked. Top 555 have a car I would have, black cs but a bit over what I'd like to pay at 145k!
It's just whether I empty my bank and take on a loan to buy one just now and a loan over 5 years is only costing 1800 which isn't a lot!

Have taken my eye off the market for a little while. Are 996 GT3's selling at moment, or is it just the occasional low mileage 'investor' type cars still?

911virgin have sold 1x Mk1 CS, 2x Mk2's and 1x GT2 in the last week or so. None of those low mileage. So they seem to be shifting

Prices have plateaued and softened. The right cars, sensibly priced, are now selling.

If the same question was raised for 997 GT3, would it be a similar answer? Any difference between .1 and .2?

Gen 2 seems up a small tick (possibly seasonal), gen 1 flat but no signs of materially weakening. Plateau seems an appropriate term for the time being but there is nothing that I can see to indicate that they may ever come down. As Slippy said for the 996 - if sensibly priced they find buyers.

The 996 market is interesting though as little used low mileage collector cars certainly seem to be tangibly on the up whereas cars that have been worked are appreciably flatter. The bargains ran out almost 3 years ago as far as I can tell though.

Does anyone know what the 997.1 and 997.2 GT3's bottomed out at and when?

I bought a main dealer one owner 997.2 GT3 Clubsport with 10k miles on the clock for £74900 in the back end of 2011 and I haven't heard of anyone getting one for materially less (though you have to assume that the trade have probably bought below that). IIRC it was possible to get high milage 997.1 comforts for prices in the low 50s in the same time frame (and it is fair to assume that sub £50k would have happened). The context to remember with the 997.1 to 997.2 gap is that there haven't really been any starship milage gen 2s on the market where as there certainly were with earlier cars.

996.2 GT3s made it down to the mid to high 30s and at least one lucky buyer secured a high mileage but well looked after left hook unbent 996.1 for less than £30k. Note though that left hook GT3s have always had weaker values in the UK than RHD (which surprisingly is not always the case with Pork).

The only advise you can gain is by doing a comparison of what GT's are fetching now compared to their original price.

Here you go....

Pricing data from Piston Heads

MSRP Pricing from carmagazine.co.uk

That's interesting...on that basis the 997.2 is the one to have had especially if you have a CS.

The thing that table obviously doesn't take account of is actual MSRP including spec and how much a dealer will take out of you in terms of bid/offer. I reckon on a 991.1 at the moment if you have a lowish mileage car with a decent CS spec you'd probably just about break even which is obviously fantastic after owning a car for three years. I think most 991.1's are £115k plus on the road and a dealer will want at least £10k and possibly £20k margin. Clearly if you get an early car and flip it that's where you maximise the profit or do zero miles and keep it for ten plus years!

991.2 GT3's are easy to spec up to £130k plus so there will be some healthy money to be made on early cars if £180k is the real number. But you'll hopefully never get a sniff of another GT car if you do that....
