The route to a GT3

what got me into a GT3? goes back to 2004 and riding shotgun in a mates brand new basalt black 04 black 6.2 club sport to le mans.

have always been a huge fan of porkers and this thing was epic. he used to have a TVR but he moved over....went to hong kong back in 2007 but has kept the gt3 in storage!!

it was super hot like now (30 plus degrees) the whole way and week at le mans. everything else was breaking down around us despite being new but TVR crap. we wafted down there in air con luxury, laughed at all the others as they cooked up and fixed stuff and it would do 190 mph with ease, with the cool air blowing and not using that much fuel compared to the others.

I just remember the noise, the gear change, the grip, the grunt , just how amazing and responsive the whole thing was as a package. and it had like 1500 miles on the clockl!!

I was hooked, he let me drive it a fair bit and that was me done/sold/in love. vowed to get one somehow and here I am after quite a lot of cars....

205 GTI 1.9 (should have kept it)
Pulsar GTiR
R33 GTR skyline x 2 (one running HKS 2530s, big injectors, Power FC ECU, loads of mods and nearly 600 bhp. flame spitting giggle monster)
R34 GTR skyline (standard apart from filter and exhaust- learnt my modding lesson!)
e30 m3 left hooker (215 bhp version)
couple of E36 m3 track cars I used to keep at the ring (when it was good to be there before top gear ruined it)
plus an E30 track with 3 litre m3 e36 engine in it. hilarious car!
996 Carrera 2 manual 3.4 in artic sliver.
BMW m3 CSL x 2 (one silver and black)
Guards red 996.2 GT3.
Daily is a Seat Leon Cupra 290 (chipped to 350 BHP) which is a riot and wolf in sheep's clothing. matches the gt3 for pace up to 80!!

I have got a barn find E36 3 litre m3 4 door saloon which I am slowly doing up and just about saved it. also got a boggo 996 C2 non sunroof manual tucked away for the future too.

Some great car history listed here.

Very interesting, I did think most would have gone Porsche or Porsche Turbo prior to pulling the trigger on the GT3? Seems that some just went "all in" straight to GT3!

I assume that the GT3 is the pinnacle or do I need to start another thread.

Life after a GT3? :?:

I made the standard mistake and had a 997.1 Turbo before I got a 997.2 GT3.

There is nothing after a GT3.

Kingston, sorry you are going to have to explain this. You third car ??? At the moment I am contemplating that you fall into one or more of the list below:

1. Are only 21
2. Keep you cars even longer than I do (I am old)
3. Live in London
4. Had an extended driving ban

How come you have had so few cars.

It is interesting to see how many are loyal to brand throughout their car ownership - until the Porsche appears.

Pip

Just never needed to change all that often or saw the point. With each car doing what i needed to at the time;
Fiat, great for London commuting and uni years
Honda, great all rounder though road/track noise gave me tinnitus, plus its a honda so never broke down
Gt3 is what it is

The GT3 would probably have gone this year but the car id like next, 997 GT2, is beyond what im willing to pay.

I hardly drive the GT3 now so no point selling it for something else that i wont drive that much either

Well, I've been driving for over 45 years so have had lots of car changes. Here is a selection including first and last:

Wow, that's amazing, are these sequential ownerships or sometimes parrallel?

Slightly off topic, but how did your 997 GT3's stack up in this company?

Fantastic cars, but a bit too accomplished as a road car.
My favorites out of the Porsche stable would be my Manthey K400 black car, the Basalt black GT2 with Ruf exhaust, map & Ohlins etc, and my first Midnight blue 964 RS. Non of them were garage queens, all were nicely fettled drivers cars.

I owned the Zanzibar Mk1 GT3 and the M3 CSL together. I then owned the Meteor 997 GT3, the Midnight blue GT2 and the Impreza WRC car at the same time. And I subsequently owned the Basalt 996 GT2 and Zanzibar GT3 (second time round) at the same time. :porsche:
