Are there any issues with the 3.4 engine in the Cayman R?

Does it suffer from any known issues, as in the 996.2 or 997.1?

Hi,
In a word no.

It's a DFI engine, they are proving to be very reliable.

Great car the CR, loved mine.

Just coming up to 56000 miles in mine. No issues.

They can suffer from typical flat six issues such as a bit of smoke on start up, the burning rubber smell after a run and clattery hydraulic tappers if the car has not run for a while. In my experience these can occur from time to time and are of no concern. They do not happen often, even less so if the car is used regularly.
