Hi Guys,

Not been here for a while, car has been parked up for afew months as i am looking to relocate and need to sell this to raise money for a deposit.

So:

I was getting misfire when the car is cold, this would happen when the car is started and left running at idle when the revs drop it would misfire for near 20 seconds the CEL light would come on and go away and all is ok.

Seems to be a very common issue on the internet...with these cars?

Car itself drives fine.

I had noted that when i have near full tank of fuel the misfire would not happen.

Initially this went un-noticed, as usually you start the car and drive off..i have never really left it to idle for 5mins - 10mins on a cold start.

Moving on:

Spark Plugs and Coil Packs were changed (original)
CaM sensor was changed (as misfire was on this bank)
One o2 Sensor was also changed

this all cost me little over £2k

I have also done an oil change.

Where i am now:

When i start the car from cold, the revs drop when the choke goes off and it misfires on 3 cylinders. also car seems to be idling low..specially when cold..so if i bip the throttle revs drop to near 600 and climb up to 800 and stay there...is this right? (this is since the cam sensor change)

My car has been to afew specialists....and not really got anywere.

I am hoping its something as simple as a fuel pump or fueling issue..or maybe cam ti-mining.

Any thoughts?

I had a bore score tests done, these came back fine, near 6 months back.

I need to free up some cash, and do not have the time to fix the car..

I was maybe looking to sell as it is...

Porsche 997 c2s 55 plate (black manual) - body work is immaculate.
89k on the clock
Folder full of receipts, includes new clutch and allot more..were all the wear and tear items were renewed.

GT3 Aero Bumper, LED lights all around, Alpine head unit

Car has allot more to offer aswell..

I actually had a buyer for the car at £22k.

Realistically speaking what can i achieve for the car? is £17k - £18k pushing it?

Which specialists has it been to? There are specialists who know what they are doing, and then there are "specialists"......

You need to get it fixed, no one in their right mind would buy a Gen1 Carrera with running issues. Everyone would be thinking what else is wrong with it.

Tell us where you are and I'm sure you'll get garage recommendations.

Been to nine mister, nine excellence, pi performance and a few others.

I am in London...car is declared off road..

Tbh I just don't have time...nor the space to keep the car anymore.

Am currently out if a job...and looking to relocate with the family up north..in 2 months...+ have a leg opp next month..

Maintenance billa close to £10k over 3 years..

A 'very common' issue? I've not heard of it before.

If it's been to five garages for rectification, how would I as a buyer be convinced it can be fixed?

Feel for your predicament, but you need to find time to get it fixed or you'll never sell it.

I'm surprised that the garages mentioned couldn't find the problem, maybe Demort on here can offer some advice.

Been speaking to Demort.. over the last few months..

Just spoke to Ken again..he also suggested we buy any car..they valued the car @ 14500 -

Also convinced the misfire does not not happen on a full tank of fuel..so will get it filled up.. and check again..

Sam, I would suggest getting the remap taken off and the stock one put back on , put a stock airfilter back in it and remove the silicon induction pipe and put the OE back on . that way you are back to OE as you have already put the stock exhaust back on . I am not sure what else to suggest that one of the indies you mentioned couldn't find using their diagnostic equipment. have you done the obvious things, maff sensor , lambda sensors, coil packs, plugs :?:

Hi Phil,

Car is back to stock..did this think 6 months back..

yup done all them..

Give Matt at Porschacare a call 07572 555076. He's based in Stevenage (not as far away as Ninemiester from you! He may have some ideas to fix your problem. http://www.porschacare.com/

Try a call to these guys in Warrington:

http://www.unitelevenporsche.com/

They are specialists in air cooled Porsche.

Just seen that yours is a 997. Dont know why I thought it was air cooled - the mention of 9Meister I guess.

Sorry cant help you - but surprised Ken at 9E could not sort it?

Maybe its something to do with the map and incomplete removal of the map back to standard? Guessing only.

This is interesting..

So when my car went to Ninemister...who changed the can sensor and o2 sensor..

i was getting misfire on 3 cylinder...and trhese were the only codes..

Spoke to Matt....charges £55 per hour. Which is reasonable...but is a one man band...which maybe a good thing if he enjoys what he does and not looking to make money for the sake of it.
.
In 2 minds...as he said I can bring it down...for a 2 hour diagnosis..only issue is I have to get the car insured...and by the time I get there car will be warm..and it's fine when warm..

May end up opening a can of worms...as costs will just go up. .for bits he may want to swap to see if it makes a difference..

Sami,

You are entitled to take the car to another garage but for the record, since this thread is not full of facts here they are

1) Your car started with some misfires
2) You have taken it to a few specialists before us
3) Plugs, coils etc were changed by them
4) When it came to us, we were able to diagnose that one cam was acting incorrectly in completely opposite to how it was before - you had the pictures of this in graph form.
5) We replaced the cam control on that bank, which resolved it but not the 02 fault. The o2 sensor was replaced.
6) The next day the car got worse on ever minute it was run
7) We pulled the oil filter, since the RMS IMS seal was hacking out - The oil filter was full of metal that can only come from one place
9) We advised you that first step would be to pull the gearbox and inspect the bearing
10) This was not done and you decided to pick up the car.
11) We advised you not to drive the car and have it recovered in that case.

I'm afraid the diagnosis is not going to change.

You now have further codes - lots of them. The engine is getting worse each time you run it.

I hope you get it resolved, but the correction will be the same.

Ken

Thanks Ken for the clarification...however I was not pointing fingers...or blame..nor did I mention you carried out the work.

I am only looking for option of getting rid of the car..as I don't have time or the money to fix it..

I did not mention the metal in the filter...as I had changed the oil and filter when I had the car recovered.and went through it and used a magnet in the oil as well as a sive..and I could not see any metal inside...(oil and filter).

Having the gearbox removed would have left me more out of pocket..and if it did need a rebuild...something I can not afford...

Also the fact that the MIS fire does not happen on a full tank of fuel makes me think it's another cause...
