Another year on and more than ever I can't believe just how cost effective running such an awesome car has been.
By the time I get back from Beaulieu next Sunday 'Red' and I will have covered 20,000 miles in our 39 months together and without wanting to tempt fate I'm assuming I won't have to have paid out anything else on her by then.
Incredibly in that 39 months my trusty spreadsheet hasn't needed updating very often but it seemed a timely moment to revisit it and update this thread accordingly.
I won't refer in detail regarding the costs of
Insurance, tax and petrol as those would be incurred in keeping any car on the road. For those that are interested, an average of £401 p.a
Insurance, tax currently at £535 and an overall mpg of 21.9 mpg are the key figures.
Regarding the cost of owning my car specifically:
On Day 1 I paid out £44,700 for the car that had just received a major service and everything it needed to also include a full 12 month warranty. Since then pre-warranty inspections and renewals have cost me £4035, servicing and non-warranty items have added £2299 and tyres a further £1710.
The grand total cost of owning my car to date is therefore £52,744.
With 68,264 miles now showing I am once again considering whether to change for something newer but as any replacement 911 I'd be interested in would mean me adding at least £15k I feel inclined to just get on with enjoying every mile. As it stands today she's only done 6000 miles on her current set of tyres, won't need a service until February 2019 and is under warranty until February 2020 so I'm trusting that she'll see me through this year with no additional expenditure.
Whilst on display at a car show recently a fellow Guards Red enthusiast examined my car in detail. He told me that he'd been looking for a Mezger 997T for a while and asked if I'd consider selling it proclaiming that my car ticked every possible box for him - model, colour combo, tiptronic, sunroof etc - and that condition wise it was far better than anything else he'd viewed.
We discussed current asking prices and he didn't baulk when I suggested that I wouldn't let mine go for less than £53k. He gave me his phone number and asked that I give him first call whenever that time comes.
Checking the classifieds it seems that, after a short spell of them not moving, in recent weeks asking prices are on the rise again and it appears that my suggested figure wasn't actually as ambitious as I thought.
Obviously at that time I wasn't aware of my ownership cost figures (as shown above) so today I found it very interesting to note that, purely by coincidence, if I was to take his £53k I would have recouped every penny that the car has cost me.
It's amazing to note that the longer I've had the car the less it's actually cost me to own.
