Looking to have some paintwork done (and a small patch of bubbling on the sill)

Anyone recommend a quality paintshop / bodywork specialist in Shropshire / Cheshire area?

Thanks,

James

I can recommend Road and Race Restorations in Little Hulton, Manchester.
They are Porsche-approved and all their work carries a lifelong warranty (subject to a free inspection each year by them or any Porsche-approved bodyshop). Warranty work can be carried out by any Porsche-approved bodyshop, and does not have to be done by the guys who initially did the work.

Alternatively, Shorade in Cannock, who are also Porsche-approved bodyshop.

If you want to go outside of these two, then you might like to consider Lloyds at Wythenshawe near Manchester Airport. Mike at Sports & Classic speaks highly of Lloyds at Wythenshawe.

All deal with prestige cars.

Loads of rave reviews for Road and Race, and local OPC gave me their card for some work I was looking to get done. I think she said they'll come to you to quote, but I'm not 100% on that.

Reynolds of Rushock did my 964 bumper and rear end after someone kindly failed to stop as quickly as I did. Excellent workmanship.

R&R may come to you, but you need to ask them. The repair estimates and assessment can be carried out if you use OPC for servicing. They will liaise with R&R and can have the car collected from and returned to OPC at no extra cost plus R&R will drop off a courtesy car for you at OPC.

They can also arrange to collect your car from home on a low-loader and returned in same way.

CMS in Telford. They do loads of work on Porsches. Steve learnt his trade with Porsche. They do accident repairs and full rebuilds.

Well - OPC Wolves recommended Shorade in Cannock as a Porsche Approved centre.

Booked an appointment for 8.30 Friday, spoke to the receptionist who didn't seem to know what she was doing. Needless to say, I arrived, and they knew nothing of my appointment and asked me to come back another day. Having driven 50 miles I wasn't impressed - and asked them to slot me in.

They did.

The car was visually inspected, fairly thoroughly by all accounts. The assessor stated you'll be looking at c. £2k for a front end respray blended into doors. Not cheap - but I thought, may be worth it for a good job. With Lambos / Porsche and Ferraris in - I knew that the quality of their workmanship must be good.

Drove home, giving it some though and waiting for the official quote. 2 hours later the quote arrive: £4.5k - a far cry from the £2k earlier!!!

What a waste of time - either I'm estimating the work and cost of a front end respray ( 2 wings, bonnet and bumper ) or they are off their nut!!

Its difficult to comment without a breakdown of time and parts.
Shorade get all OPC work in midlands area and have an excellent name.

Road and Race Restoration get all OPC in Lancashire, Merseyside and Cheshire and also have an excellent reputation.

They did a fantastic job with front respray due to stone chips this time last year for me. All Porsche-approved bodyshops are independent businesses.

Worth a phone call to them or take the car to OPC in their catchment area - Chester, Wilmslow, Bolton or Kendal and they will photograph your car and send to R&R who will quote and OPC will confirm price with you.

Also you can try Lloyds Autobody Manchester (near Manchester Airport in Wythenshawe). Lloyds does prestige stuff such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, Bentley and Mclaren.

If you want to broaden the choice outside of these - the choice is plenty of good independent bodyshops - but ask around for recommendations to get a confidence level to choose one.

Have you sorted your paint/bodywork requirements?
Did you settle with Road and Race or Lloyds?

I just picked my car up today from Rightway Paint and Body in Wigan where it had a bumper off, stripped and re-sprayed. I am proper chuffed :)

They are not an official Porsche body shop. Most of their work is from VW but, having seen the job they did on a family member's car, I asked them to do my bumper. Darren, the owner, said they would be about 40% cheaper than going through my OPC and going from Internet accounts that's about where it turned out.

Proper professional outfit from my perspective. Car was kept indoors, covered and babied throughout. I got a re-assuring progress call half way through the job. Colour is Platinum Silver so Darren set my expectations about just doing the bumper but I needn't have worried; to my eyes at least it looks absolutely identical to the original paintwork on the trunk lid and front wings.

I'll second Road & Race. They are official painters for OPC Bolton and Wilmslow.

I have used them extensively on my 911 and their work is faultless. I have made a couple of videos at their premises so you can view them in my YouTube channel.

I had recommended R&R as I used them last year for the front respray to get rid of 4 years worth of stone chips on my car. But as the OP also asked about the Midlands area, I also suggested Shorade in Cannock with whom the OP had a shock when the final estimate came through.

So I guess OP decided to steer clear of Porsche-approved bodyshops and as Shorade have seen the car and I haven't I could not pass comment about the estimate.

I hope OP found a good bodyshop in the end at an acceptable price.
