My GT3 restoration and upgrade thread

Stunning!! I can see you have the mild case of OCD and everything must be clean and spotless
Love the 996 GT3 and Speed Yellow is my fav!! I really want to do the same deep cleanse to my C4S.

Its looking like another incredible build (love the M3 too).
Look forward to see and hear more on your restoration/build. :thumb:

Small update - Monday morning she is being collected & taken on a trailer up to centre gravity for Ohlins loveliness to be installed and full suspension geo and refresh..... :D :D

Today I fitted my new Sullivan racing products pedals, all the way from the US of A...... very pleased with them, cant wait to try them out..I did get a set of Rennline ones, but had no luck getting design911 ( UK agents) to order the heel and toe bits and the floorplate, so got these meantime. Are design911 always so crap with service?

Cheers

That looks amazing, you must have a lot of patience!

Have you used any product to protect / preserve all of your efforts?

Looking good

I keep hearing negatives on Design911 custopmer service so just steer clear of them

You can come and clean the undersideof my car any time

Cars looking great, alot of work to get there.

Just wondering, are you missing a brake spoiler on your bottom arms?

Kind Regards

Looks bloody marvellous mate! Can you do mine when you're finished?

Seriously though, I'd love to do this with mine. I'm watching closely. Nice work

Thanks for all the nice comments ! I have removed all the undertrays and brake scoops so I can get at everything.

It got collected this morning to be taken up to centre gravity, so will post some update this week on progress with the suspension build.

I am using a coat of Dynax UC on all the cleaned areas, its a clear wax. However, it does remain a little tacky which does not bode well for keeping it clean, although the metal underneath will obviously be protected.

On the M3, I just clean religiously every time it gets used and spray with GT85 and or WD40 everything underneath...seems to do the trick - and it smells nice... :)

Cheers

Thanks for the tip, just ordered some.

Got an update from Centre gravity- car arrived safe and sound:

Here she is on the ramp:

A bit of suspension porn:

Front suspension stripped out:

And built up and on the car:

Pete at Centre gravity reports that the tyres were fooked - basically had turned to plastic.... and that the car was pulling left with wheel straight on. The dampers also needed rebuilding / replacing, which I already suspected at this age. All suspension bushes etc however seem to be in great condition, which is really good, as I was expecting a large bill for changing these.

Will update further later.

So work continues......some shots of the suspension built up and going back in, then the car on the jig for geo:

Hi Mark wonderful car and shocking clean ;)
Just wondering about this picture above. Did you add an additional locking collar and were the drop link attachment brackets part of the Ohlins kit for the GT3?

Many thanks ;)

That's an OEM GT3 droplink hanger, so it just gets transferred from the old struts. You need 3 locking rings + the spring perch; I'd expect any decent kit to include them.
