Over six feet tall? Drive a manual?

defo do the Console delete. best thing I done to my 996.2 GT3.

mine is a comfort so it had the storage bins and the CD storage which I hated. I have kept all the stuff though. my left leg used to bang on it all the time. gone now with the console delete and my leg rests nicely there now.

see my build thread in Owners Gallery for details on how to do it.

I am 6ft 2 and big frame and have no issues with the Bucket seats in my GT3. I much prefer them to the comfort seats you normally get. even on a long drive they are fine for me.

Looks great on yours- I'm definitely sold on the idea.

What colour does Porsche call this carpet?

I don`t know how you lanky blokes fit in a 996 at all, I`m 5' 10" my knees are bashing the centre console and my thighs catch the steering wheel when getting in the car

I`m thinking of swapping the 4 spoke steering wheel as my 987 Boxster S 3 spoke wheel is 1" smaller in diameter :dont know:

I had my daughters boyfriend in the 996 the other day, he`s 6' 9" / 18 stone and he had to lean his head to one side the whole time he was in the car :floor:

Hello,

I'm 6ft 6in and went down the route of fitting a Raid 340mm flat bottomed steering wheel from Carnewal, it has transformed my driving experience. While it wasn't cheap, the wheel is high quality and feels good, I also unclipped the document holder that's under the dashboard to improve knee clearance.

Might be worth checking out.

Regards.

I once had an MR2 Turbo Mk2 - Quite comfy to driving position but I looked fairly daft getting in and out of it....

Thanks for the input all, I've decided that this is (probably!) "granite grey" (top part where the switches are) so have ordered the GT3 console delete with Metropol blue carpet and a granite grey trim piece, quite excited about how it'll change the driving experience and also the look of the car- to me it's much more "Porsche" for some reason.

I've just ordered a centre console delete too. However, I've got a light grey carpet and I've ordered in black - terrible feeling the colour will be a mistake, even though the car mats are black!

It may well end up being sold on...!

If so I'd appreciate your advice - I'm ~6'2" and my left knee has to sit just next too and slightly behind the steering wheel, with my shin against the centre console. This is fine for country roads but when going through towns/general maneuvering my left hand can't easily get past my left knee.

Who here has experienced this and come up with a cunning way of resolving it?

I'm 6' 6" and the GT3 centre console delete is a winner for us taller chaps! :thumb:

For the glove box less 996.1 drivers considering getting rid of the cubby hole in a console delete this may be of interest for a storage idea for you
I fitted a bmw storage net to mine that works a treat

I installed mine last night and makes all the difference.

Picked mine up from Reading Porsche in black. I was concerned that the colours would look odd but actually they go pretty well (as my car mats are black and the stereo surround is black).

Very pleased! Just need to figure out where to put the rubbish that I stored in the cubbyhole and extend my aux in for the stereo.

Great mod.

I thought I'd outline my experience with seats in the 996. I had comfort sets which I removed and fitted Hard Back Sports Seats. I had the backs colour coded Carrara White (not a typo!) and re-skinned. Huge difference. You sit lower than comfort seats but the same as standard seats. More supportive as the base contains more aggressive bolsters to keep you in place. To get more leg room you'll need to remove the seat stop brackets (give you 15mm more legroom). However, I would say even with the bracket removed they still do not give you the same leg room as standard or comfort seats (about 1.5 inches less which is a lot). I then ordered the XSU Lower seat option part from my local Porsche parts dept which consists of new base and inner back sponge (I paid about 100 british pounds). I only fitted it for the driver's side. This made a huge difference as I now sit lower and my back fits into the seat. Highly recommended. I went on a Porsche driving course so I now know how to set the seating position etc.. so the less leg room with the Sports seats is not an issue.

So, for more leg room keep the standard seats and remove the seat stop bracket. For the lowest seating position keep the standard seats and fit the XSU option. For grippy seats get the Sports Seats and fit the XSU option and for looks get the sports seats colour coded! Remove the seat stop bracket in any case.

Coming back to this, the centre console is now out but the idea of getting lower is attractive as it would enable me to see the top of the clocks, I don't suppose you have a part number for the lower cushion?

That looks great.

Has it improved your leg room?
