Hi
Another midlife crisis points me in the direction of commissioning a 964 based retro GTR 964 build. Any advice on which specialists to use or not to use. Also need to source a 964 for build. All advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys👍

Depends on your budget and how long you want to allow for turnaround? There are lots of back-date/resto companies some BIG dough others more reasonable and tailored to budget.

Performance-Porsche in Brighouse have started into the back-date game with their 'Klassiker' range and have several on the go. They're cheaper than Paul Stephens and from what I've seen there's no fibreglass in sight as their sheet metal worker is a genius :worship: Take a look on their FB site

However you're biggest problem will be finding a donor vehicle at the right price. C2 coupe will be big dough, C4 less so. If you dont mind the stigma a Cat C/D will be your best option but would be harder to sell when/if you decide to offload :what:

Good luck

Mine is going to performance porsche soon for service and door check strap. I was impressed with their set up last yr.

OP if you speak to them pls PM me how much this restoration/backdate cost.

I saw that when it was work in progress but almost finished. It was lovely - looked like a brand new car from top to bottom (but with character). 8) After seeing the quality of the finish I would definitely speak to Precision if I was in the market for something like this.

It was a customer build rather than one that they did and sold as a finished item so I would be surprised if they disclose the cost/price of that actual car. I seem to remember them saying that it was a showcase to let people know what they can do and therefore the cost of the work done had been subsidised to a degree in return for promotional use.

I would imagine that the condition of the donor car and the owner's required spec will vary the cost of each project significantly. If you have to go out and buy the donor 964 now it's going to be a hefty investment in total but a very nice thing to have at the end of it.

Seen it in the flesh too and a wonderful job by Sam Corke and his team

964 build

i'm currently going through a similar process (Mrs thinks its a mid life crisis) but i'd like to think differently... She's getting a new kitchen this year while i get a new toy...

As for options plenty to go with from Paul Stephens, 9M, Autofarm and loads up north. Depends on how deep your pockets are and how much time you have. Builds usually take around 6-12 months.

Ah yes saw the Paul Stephens examples at Goodwood - a lovely job.
It does seem a few of the names you mention have cottoned on to the 2+ year waiting list to pay Singer US$600k
As someone said above, problem is getting a cheap and tatty donor car these days.

Plenty of tatty cars, but cheap they are not.... Gone are the days of a £15-20K donor.....

Those Precision cars, as are the majority of similar restorations, are absolutely gorgeous.

Thinking about starting a poll re: which kid to sell. Difficult as they're both lovely. :?:
