964 spotted £70k !

A well sorted car for sure but too much money IMO. I've modified a few cars over the years with similar modifications and come sale time they are worth considerably less than their purchase price when added to the car.
£40k worth of mods (I assume this includes garage labour rates), would be worth around half this come sale time.
A marmite coloured 964 with sensible miles and a few nice upgrades. £50-55k tops.

There is a zillion ways to do a car up, you can certainly replace the dampers for less than 1k if you do it yourself however if you want to upgrade to something like PSS10 and refresh bushes (Ball joints, spring plate, stabilser & wishbone), top mount rubber, ARB .... and a proper geometry set up by a known specialist with some powder coating on top then I suspect you'd be looking at a bill in the range of 4-5k.
Same with engine, you can do a topend reseal for less than 4K @ mate rates but you could also spend 20k at a known specialist - Tinware, replating, HE's, mapping, clutch, oil cooling system as well as the usual wear & tear engine parts add up very quickly.
Now I don't know exactly what was done on this car or if bills add up to 40k but devil is in the detail and if this car has been done close to that level of detail then its certainly good value even at 70k.
I believe that you can easily rack up those numbers if you cant d.i.y.
if you think about it, that car new today would be 75k plus, you have taken an old car and renewed it, if it cost 45k plus 40k you are not far off.
if its been done by decent mechanics, you have a wonderful car for 10years, and when you move it on you get a good bit back.
too many cars claim to have had work at big money, its who has done the work that counts.
if I had 70k doing nothing, and the work was top notch, I wouldn't even haggle, there would be nothing to pull the owner up on.
Autofarm will build you a 'new' Porsche from scratch, its called the autofarm 911 and costs 100k approx.

The above new build figures can be said for most cars. I have a low mileage e34 535i Sport Manual that is a fantastic family cruiser in the summer months. To build or restore one to the level of my car would cost £15k+, however the car is still only worth £8k'ish.
The market will no doubt decide what this 964 is worth and my guess it is nowhere near £70k. Modifications and labour charges cannot be recouped come sale time.

you answered your own question, an aircooled Porsche is a riser and is worth throwing the money at. like I said, you will get a fair chunk of it back in 10 years of great motoring, a lot of cars would be scrapped in 10 yrs time. The thing that makes it worth it in my book, is if a car has been done properly with proof. Loads claim it, most are an exaggeration.
The modifications will be 10 years old in ten years and providing the car has been used regularly then they may be ready for replacement/refreshing again.
Most 90's German performance metal will increase in value as the amount of actual used cars will become fewer. Just look at how many manual 964's for example were available just 5 years ago compared with today.
My point is current value. There are not many buyers looking to spend the £30k premium for this car, modifications or not. It's routine maintenance IMO and only worth a small premium.
