Repairing Door Window Scratch?

Hi Guys,

I noticed a few minor scratches on the window of the driver's side door on my 996tt (yet to work out how they got there!). No longer than a couple of inches in length though I can just feel them with the nail of my finger. Without trying to be too OCD about I would like to get them sorted.

I'm trying to get it done properly and not use any of the home repair kits. Is it realistic that a auto glass pro could polish it out, and if so can anyone recommend a company along the south coast near Portsmouth? Otherwise I guess it will be sourcing a window from a breakers yard.

Cheers

This lad has done some good body work stuff for me on my track bike. Knows his stuff alright. He's also got a 996 Turbo.

Oops sorry, wrong thread. I thought it was S Yorkshire....

I have the exact same problem and yes I do have OCD.

I've tried ceri-glass on a DA which took about 4 hours per square inch and didn't really do a lot. I have now bought a rotary polisher with the aim to get my time down to 4 minutes per square inch

I realise you didn't want a DIY fix but I thought I would throw in my 2 peneth

Its a slow day

Thanks Hans.

I took a look at the scratches again today in better light and the confirmed the glass scratches are so fine I am half tempted to try myself with a rotary polisher based repair kit I spotted on Amazon.

Will be interested to know the results you get.

Looking into this further I think the only way to do it properly is replacing the window, and getting a Porsche specialist garage to do fit it, though I'll try and source a window.

Anyone know if the Boxster/996 C will fit, seems to have the same part number?

I've got scratches in mine too. Annoying, and also a light scratch straight across the windscreen on my X5, probably grit under an ice scraper.

I think the side windows get scratched when grit gets down between the rubber and the glass.

You'd have to be sure that a replacement glass had no scratches in too.

My concern then is the basic design would mean that it happened again, which would be really annoying!

Yes proper annoying!

True, after hunting around it looks like I can get a new window from Design911 for not much more than second hand ones so that seems the best bet.

Definitely a good tip.

I thought the seals were kept pretty clean, though will get the garage to check them (or replace them if needed) and also check anything in the door as once I get a new window fitted I want it to stay unscratched.
