997 Turbo v GTS v Evora

I've owned a few cars in my past and driven even more. Took delivery of a 2007 997.1 turbo high spec (£20k worth of extras when new) totally standard just two weeks ago. I can tell you in manual form with the short shifter it is the best car I have owned for pure driver engagement by some margin. Only niggle is exhaust note which will hopefully be resolved when I fit s Europipe next week.

If your interested I bought it from a independent Porsche specialist with 18 months balance of Porsche warranty and 56k on the clock for just under £50k.

Guys,

Thank you for all the input as usual! Lawsy and Boba, that's very kind of you so expect a PM when I'm in a position to buy one!

RJW - well done sir! Sounds lovely and that is probably the ball-park that I'm looking for. Good to hear the exhaust 'issue' can be overcome quite easily, seems a lot of you Turbo owners are going that way.

BK - good to hear that the Evora compares well with the Porsche marque. From what I've read it's a very capable beast, interior quality not quite Porsche standards but the drive sublime. I thought the upgrades were from 2012 onwards but happy to stand corrected, if so I'll change my car hunt a little. Did you go for the IPS paddle shift or manual?

Thanks

Jim

Jim,

Spot on, my mistake yes 2012. Just be cautious it is a genuine 2012 upgrade model and not a 2012 registered car that's actually the older one... Unfortunately this happens and the improved model is a must unless you're in the £30k bracket.

Something like this:-

Would be interesting compared to an 911...

Only issue is that it's not a 911.. But it's a new car that will be very rewarding to drive...

I went for one as I love Lotus... Had to have one. As an everyday car you'll need to be committed as I was. Given the issues 997's have I don't think the Evora is any worse. But don't expect £80k materials.. It's a cheaper handmade car. It's NOT German standards but very well put together.

It's a very impressive car, I'd buy another but want to try other cars first. When the Evora 400 is about £40k I'll have a go..

997 GTS is on my everyday car radar after the M3... I've always wanted a 997.

997.1 Turbo is hard to ignore.. An unmolesed one in mint condition would be very tempting from a performance and build quality point of view.

Enjoy the hunt, as always half the fun👍🏼😉

Manual with the new cables...

IPS is just a torque converter not double clutch!

Personally I'd stick with a short ratio manual. Beware its a compromised box... You can't rush a change.. 6/10 box I'm afraid. It works but isn't great. My old 964 Getrag was much better
:D
