Starting the hunt again

Starting my hunt again and hopefully this time it wont take nearly 2 years!

Im after a 911SC or Carrera 3.2. Must be Coupe. Interesting colour preferred. Comprehensive paper trail. RHD. UK car.

I'd love a T, E or S but I feel I wouldn't use it as I should hence the cheaper above options.

From what I understand its really down to user preference between the two models (SC/3.2). Of these models, what are must do PPI's?

On both a full body inspection done ONLY by a place that knows these and repairs them, it's all hidden, by the time you see a 'tiny bubble' it's eaten though the cars guts to show. So if there are no bubbles great! It's only eaten 90% though so far...

For me (I bought a 3.2 with 915 'box), the most obvious difference between the two was the 915 or G50 Gearboxes.

Don't think there is a 'problem' with a 915 one that you try, all the guys at my Indie could drive mine changing gear with one finger (they took me out and showed me!), whereas I struggled and found it a bit fidgety.

I guess I failed the true petrol head test.

I can out you in contact with someone but it will need work. There will however be no surprises as Clarky points out.

Personally knowing how these rot I'd prefer buying one to recommission, then I know all the works been done rather than a 'minter' that actually might not be within. :what:

I've never driven a 3.2 however a few months ago I bought a guards red SC coupe with all black interior and it's been a revelation to me. It's handling is extremely responsive....it's great fun to drive. Mine is a 1982 model with 204 bhp.....I'd try for one of these with the extra power if I were you. As mentioned above-rust is the nightmare problem. The kidney bowls are often completely rusted out along with the B pillars.....but on the surface they can look fine. If the price is right I would not be put off by rust-there are loads of specialists who can rectify rust issues....kidney bowls are about 1.5k each side however.
The 915 gear box is a bit clunky like the old Jag Moss gearbox but you soon get used to it....all the folk that moan about it should man up.
The SC feels fairly slow until you really put your foot down-over 4 rpm and they really start to shift.....compared to many modern cars they are slow-but the fantastic handling and feel of the SC more than compensates
for any lack of power.

I owned a late SC many years ago and its one of the best 911 driving experiences, very revvy with a nice kick in the power delivery at the top end..
The only thing I remember about the box was having to "drive it" from 2nd to 3rd because it doesn't have a sprung gate, but apart from that it must of been ok?

The one thing that puts me off these cars now is the rampant rot that affects them and as Zingari rightly points out its probably better to do one yourself than buy one that may or may not have been done to a decent standard.

Thanks lads. Ive been having a little read on IB's and it would seem to be a complete minefield. I don't know enough about these cars so I'll need to refer to the forums and if necessary pay the monies for a proper inspection.

As for the GT3..
