Right. I've a 997.1 C2S, and I've noticed once or twice it been a little reluctant to start. Nothing major though.

A week or two ago I was on my way to Wales from Manchester and the 'warning battery/regenerator' massage popped up. It only happened when in town-traffic so I grabbed a set of jump leads just incase as I was in convoy with a few friends. It kept doing this all weekend, but started first time.

That week I took it to a Porsche Specialist (won't say who just yet) who told me it was something to do with the alternator and replaced something on it. Sorry I can't be more specific but I don't have the invoice here. Anyway, on the drive home, the warning popped up for a second but I had to get home so continued on my journey. I used it the following day and drove to my girlfriends house (30 miles) and it was fine, however when I locked it using the remote, there was a horn-beep so I checked the doors and nothing was open. I locked it with the key just in case.

Next day, it wouldn't start. Few dash lights flickered on, but wouldn't even turn. Got it jump started off my girlfriends TDi Golf then drove it 4 miles to my parents where I keep a lot of my tools. Left it charging for about 5 hours then had to pop out so disconnected the charger. 3 hours later when I retuned, it was TOTALLY dead. Can't even pop the bonnet.

Obviously I'm pretty pi$$ed at the specialist and am about to call them, but as you can imaging, my confidence in them isn't exactly high...

Any suggestions? I'm guessing the battery may now be dead (probably original, car is '05) but I don't want to buy another if it's going to be killed straight away!

Oh, and my starter-motor seems to sometimes screech just after starting so I'm guessing it's on the way out...

No warranty, and don't need to hear comments about one as I had a pretty bad experience with my last OPC purchase.

I don't know about the starter motor, but I had a similar problem with mine not charging. The fault turned out to be the main power cable which corrodes. It is fairly common and I had mine replaced under warranty.

classic loose power cable, not on battery but somewhere along its path, first point to inspect is the short cable run from battery negative terminal to chassis.

then battery positive cable to terminal in engine compartment, after that its the starter motor connection. process of elimination, good luck.
