Hello
Can anyone explain what the numbering convention for Porsche is?
I'm talking the 964, 993, 996, 997, 991, 992... What happens next? the 99...8?
Or isn't there really one?
I know Ferrari had / have a vague connection to the engine - 355 3.5ltr 5 valves per cylinder..
But I can't find anything, however tenuous that might connect the numbers to the models with Porsche (Except maybe the 914 / 916 which had 4 cylinders or 6! Very Happy ).

Just wondered..

993 something to do with the year 1993, can't remember the details. Plenty of experts on the forum will expand no doubt.
No idea on the others.

There isn't one.

See below link for the full list of 'type' numbers that Porsche have used.

After the 992 .......... it's anybody's guess :dont know:

994 and 995 have already been used.

thankyou my issuee has been solved

Porsche had a logical numbering system but when the 901 was introduced, Peugeot complained that they had the rights to *0* numbers on their cars and Porsche renamed the 901 as 911. After that the only Porsche *0* numbers were for racing cars.

Incidentally Peugeot never complained about Bristol's numbering!
