Porsche ignition light stays on when ignition key turned to off position.
When ignition key turned to "on" position the light goes out. Stays out when ignition key twisted to start the engine , and engine will not start.
It's obviously the ignition switch isn't it ?
No it isn't ....
I replaced it with a new genuine Porsche part (***** of a job) and could not believe that it does exactly the same with the new switch.
Voltage regulator?
Took the present one off so I could look at it closely in order to maybe replace it, and as a matter of interest hooked up the battery and the ignition light remains on with the voltage regulator removed.
Anyone come across this before ?
Thoughts?

very odd, what is the trigger for the light to go off ?

Thanks for responding.
The light goes off when I turn the key to its second position, the one before the next twist of the key activates the starter. The starter works perfectly, but the engine won’t start .Ancillaries which should work when the ignition is on and shouldn’t work when it’s off all function as they should .
It’s very strange, and happened suddenly

early 911's are far too technical for my knowledge, maybe worth asking on the ddk forum
