Great write-up!!!!

What a brilliant write up Asim.

I've followed your instructions and it made the job so easy. I wanted to get the bumper cover off to get the crap out of the cooler and condensor as you did. Sad to find that air conn condensor appears to be on its way out due to the crap on it.

So, on that subject, where did you get new condensor from? Did you shop around much?

Hope you don't mind me asking.

Will

What an excellent write up. :thumb:

Great write up Asim. Most interesting and very easy to follow.

The only observation I would have is with respect to changing the dryer and having the system regassed. If you leave the dryer open to the air for a period, then it will absorb moisture and some of its life may have been spent before it is gassed and actually goes into service. I would think it imay be better to take off the old dryer leave everything clear and then get the regas shop to fit the dryer so that it is open to the air for the shortest period of time.

Glad the thread has been of use chaps!

Will ask away :thumb:. I sourced my condensor through GSF car parts. Wherever possible I go for original Porsche parts, but I was advised by 2 specialists that if you can find the condensor from an OE supplier, they will be just as good. ECP were selling Hella versions, but I was told that a company called Behr supply Porsche. GSF managed to get one for me. It's a high quality item and fitted perfectly.

The condensors do rot through so most 993s will need this doing soon, if they haven't already had it done.

Michael, I asked the specialists about this very point. They said the doing it this way is fine as the system will not be run and so the exposure is minimal. I didn't hang about getting the system gased - after fitting it.
It's a good suggestion to get the gas shop to fit the drier, but it is a fiddly job.

Asim,
Thanks for your comments. If as you did, you didn't hang about before regassing then any moisture absorbed would be minimal an in any case as you have connected it all up it is sealed anyway.

When I last had mine regassed, about 2years ago, the specialist said that you should change the dryer now and again as they do loose their efficiency. I expect my dryer is the original and I would have done it then if he had had the part to hand, but he did not. I think its about time I had my system checked again and perhaps I will get a dryer in advance so it can be changed when the gas has been evacuated.

Asim, very informative  prompted me to check mine. inspection with a torch showed there were fag ends, leaves and the like so made a quick mod to the nozzel of the hand held dyson with gaffer tape and a length of hose pipe and vac'd out all the nooks and crannies! the air condensor side had much more cr*p than the oil rad side especially the bottom corner (is there a drain point here). sprayed with WD40 after.

Great idea on the Dyson James!

Yes, I found the same - much more crap in the air con condensor side than the oil cooler :dont know:

I think there is enough gap for water to drain, but not for leaves etc, so it builds up and traps more crap.

sorry to bump such an old thread chaps but took me ages to find this and i want to look at it again when i get home.
Asim many thanks for the great pictures and write up.

Thanks for the write up Asim - going to be a great help to me when I tackle the same job this winter.

Just wondering if you have the identification details off the Behr condenser which you used ? I can't quite pick the details out from the picture you've posted.

Much appreciated if you've got it - I'm planning on buying the same unit.

Cheers

Andrew
