987 C4S front spring removal - question

Hi guys

Upgrading springs all round amd have completed rears

Now on to fronts

I've seem a couple of clips on line where people leave the top plates connected to the inner wing and just undo the centre nut, dropping the strut enough the remove spring. Is this possible on the 4wd model or do I HAVE to remove driveshaft? I'm hoping there is enough wiggle room not to do so....
